This little book owes its existence to appointments I was fortunate enough to secure at two of the world´s premier research institutions:
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (as a Lady Davis Visiting Professor) in the fall of 1985 and the École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris (as a Directeur d`Études Associé) from December 1992 to June 1993.
Without these opportunities to step outside the press of daily obligations at my home institution, I would never have ventured to investigate a somewhat forbidding-looking language which I had not previously had an opportunity to study.
I must therefore first express my thanks and appreciation to Professor Michael Stone of the Hebrew University, who gave unstintingly of his time and resources to me when I was a mere beginner attempting to feel my way through Classica Armenian grammar.
